It has been over a year! :)

I decided it could just be time for an update.  :D  It has only been a year and a half.  Lets see.  I will be married 10 yrs this summer!  Matt moved out last summer and moved about 50 miles away.  I do not see him very often, maybe once a month.  Jonathan will be 9 in 2 weeks.  Ken is still working hard and I do daycare from my home 3 days a week.  Is it my dream job?  No, however it helps out and the kids are great.

I went back to OA recently, 23 days ago and I feel GREAT! I am gluten free, well, I have been for a couple of years since learning I had a wheat intolerance.  My energy level is up and the weather has been amazing!  Just 3 weeks ago we had a snow storm and now the snow is gone and all my flowers are coming up, the grass is turning green once again as well.

I read through the bible last year using a one year chronological bible and this year I am using a One Year Bible again, however it is not Chronological but one w/ some old, new and psalms and proverbs.  It is amazing how God can speak to me every single day through his word.  I just started memorizing Psalm 1 too. :)

Been really considering going through the summer session of Evangelism Explosion again.  It really is sooo easy for me to witness and share my faith, try to get a plug in at the grocery story, etc. and give out tracts.  Tonight I was pondering why it is so easy for me and so hard for others.  Of course I know the Lord is who gets all of the glory, but I can remember as a young girl always wanting to be a Christian.  I met a gal in high school who was a Christian and I really wanted what she had.  I wanted it so bad I thought, if only I hang around her it will somehow rub off on me.  But it didn't.  See, what I really needed was the gospel.  I didn't need someone to be a good girl or be nice around me cuz Christianity is not a works type faith where if you just do good and be good and call yourself a Christian you will be one.  It is having an understanding that you are a hopeless wretched sinner who needs a Savior, someone who took the penalty for your sin and paid the price so you could live forever and ever.  That is the gospel and that is what I needed to hear, so I am compelled to share it with others.

Yesterday there was a kid named Matt who waited on me in Hallmark.  (pray for Matt) see, he messed up my order and overcharged me 13 dollars.  I showed him his error and patiently waited while he gave me my change and then he started putting himself down.  He then said I should be mad at him and what came out of my mouth was that Jesus displayed me grace that was undeserved and the least I could do was show him grace as well.  He was taken back and said, wow, I guess I am not used to that.  There was a lady behind me in line, so I only had time to hand him a tract and told him this booklet talks about the grace that was displayed to me.  Oh Lord, please draw Matt to read that tract and send more "vocal" Christians into his path.

God has shown me that I cannot witness by my good works alone, or people will become confused and this that salvation is nothing but a works based religion.

Blessings, Sheila

Merry Christmas!

I haven't updated for months and months....let's see... I have had a great few months.  I quit my job the end of August.  It was just really stressing me out, it was a good positive move for me to come back home.

My family is well...I am still trusting in Jesus and feel really blessed.

It  has been almost 2 years since my Dad went home to be with JESUS....I still have some days that I just miss him, but now mostly I am just soooo happy for him to be with JESUS in heaven.

If anyone wants to keep up with me they can find me on facebook.  If you want to search for me, kennyandsheila@gmail.com

Have a wonderful Christmas!

In JESUS, Sheila

My weight loss journey

On August 1, 2009 I was heavier than I had ever been and was bummed. I didn't really know what to do. I was a compulsive overeater and depressed about my appearance. I sat down and googled compulsive overeater Christian and stumbled across a site called www.fulloffaith.com. I logged on and read thru Pam's free online book. I decided I could try the food plan for just ONE day. One day turned in to 2 days and here I am almost 9 months later and down 62.5 lbs. I feel better than I have in years. I went out and found a job for the first time in 8 years and my life has opened up in so many ways.

Just wanted to share this with you all.

Blessings, Sheila

This blog is dedicated to Julie Check, 40 years old, of Wausau WI.

  Julie Check

I didn't know Julie for very long.  She was a wife and a mom of  3.  Recently she appeared in the lobby of my church.  I greeted her and she told me that she was bringing her son who was 10 to our AWANA program at church.  I wanted to visit with her, but she seemed preoccupied with a book and was reading.

The following week, February 25th, 2009  she showed up with asking me if we had an Ash Wednesday service.  I told her no, but we had a prayer service upstairs and a women's bible study as well.  She thanked me and went upstairs.  I then continued to visit with my girlfriends in the lobby while our kids were in AWANA.  Then I felt the tugging at my heart, I knew I needed to go and share Christ with Julie.  I was so enjoying these ladies, some of whom I had not seen in a while.  Finally I pulled myself away and went upstairs.  There she was sitting alone on a bench and she was happy to see me.  I asked her what she was looking for in a Ash Wednesday service, and she answered she didn't know, but something.  It was then I asked permission to share with her the good news.  I told her the Bible tells us we can know these things for certain we have eternal life.  I asked her if she thought she would go to heaven and she said she hoped so, cuz she was a good person.  I then shared with her (Evangelism Explosion) that heaven was a free gift and she prayed and received Christ.   She marveled at how simple the gospel was!

Friday night, February 27th, 2009 she called me.  She was struggling with family life and it was her 40th Birthday.  I prayed with her again and told her to call me in the morning.

Monday morning March 2nd, she called me again and she sounded really great.  She said she had just taken her 4 year old twins for haircuts and herself.  We had plans to meet Wednesday night so I could get her started on her walk with the Lord through a small discipleship booklet.  She didn't show.

I didn't hear from her for over a week.  Thursday March 12th I opened the Wausau Daily Herald and there was her obituary.  I was blown away.  I learned she died of pneumonia.  Julie died 13 days after she prayed to receive Christ!  Her husband told me how she had gotten sick during the week, finally went to the walk in on Sunday.  He said they admitted her immediately and she had a very aggressive pneumonia that was bacterial and got into her blood stream.  She died of sepsis.

Julie is a perfect example of not waiting till you are good friends to share the gospel.  Often times we as believers wait so long to share, we never share and clearly articulate the gospel.  I was guilty of this for the first 18 years of my walk with Christ.   For the past 2 years I have been part of a team at my church called evangelism explosion, it has changed my life.

Often times we will wait so long to share "Friendship Evangelism" we never get around to sharing Christ and people are dying 2 every second, another dead.

Mark Cahill wrote an excellent book on this topic:

You do not need to "earn the right to share the gospel" ..where is this in Scripture? No, I don't force the Gospel on anyone, I always ask permission, we are called to proclaim Jesus with gentleness, grace and truth.

I am so thankful I spoke up for Julie's sake......I know I will see her again.
